EUK Team Visits Marston Green Explorer Scouts for Bring the Power Celebration Event
The EmployabilityUK team joined the Explorer Scouts of Marston Green this week to celebrate the culmination of our Bring the Power programme.
Young people from the area enjoyed evening sessions spanning vision boards, The A-Z of Super Confidence and Be Your Best You. Beyond nibbles, drinks and networking, vision board displays from those undertaking the programme punctuated the achievements of a fantastic group.
Special Guests Join the EUK Team
The EUK team, including Chief Executive Diane Vernon and Head of Programmes Krys Nosek, were joined by several special guests for the celebration, including our fantastic volunteer presenters, Gina Whitaker and Betsy Matthews.
Also in attendance were Adam Stokes, Youth Engagement Manager for the Commonwealth Games, and Team GB gymnast Josh Nathan.
Adam works tirelessly to ensure that the 2022 Games leave a lasting impression on young people. He discussed the Bring the Power programme, designed to help young people across the Midlands to access sports, culture and arts, while also improving confidence and resilience.
Meanwhile, Josh gave the scout explorers an insight into what it means to be a professional athlete representing their country on the biggest stage, while also continuing his studies.
He talked about:
- Taking up gymnastics at the age of five in Nottingham
- Moving to Birmingham to join the City of Birmingham Gymnastics Club following his coach’s return to the US
- The important balance between gymnastics and education – Josh currently studies Architecture at Birmingham City University
Diane Vernon Discusses MBE
An inspirational evening continued with Chief Executive Diane Vernon leading certificate awards and discussing her recently awarded MBE.
With 18 young people in attendance, the session wrapped up a comprehensive employability skills programme that brought together EmployabilityUK’s key messages and real-world experience from a number of outstanding representatives.
Speaking on the programme’s success, Krys Nosek said: “It has been a genuine delight to work with the Explorer Scouts on their skills and confidence.
“I’ve had the pleasure of overseeing delivery and working with some outstanding people to make it happen. It’s not every day we get to work with an MBE, a senior representative from the Commonwealth Games and a Team GB athlete. Monday’s session was a fitting climax to the efforts and evolution of the young people involved.”
