A new interim report from Alan Milburn has highlighted the scale of the challenge facing young people who are not in education, employment or training.
The report, alongside the latest ONS figures, confirms that around one million young people are currently NEET. It also raises serious questions about whether the existing system is doing enough to build long-term capability, confidence and employability skills.
EmployabilityUK has published a response on LinkedIn, setting out why we believe the answer is not simply more provision, but better, more consistent and quality-assured employability skills support embedded across young people’s learning.
Our response argues that activity is not the same as outcome, and that employability skills should not be treated as a short-term add-on. They should be a structural part of how young people are prepared for the world of work.
